TruRead has become one the first companies to sign the new gas AMR Code of Practice, known as ASPCoP. The standard which has been developed by a wide range of industry participants under the guidance of ESTA.

Over the past 12 months, TruRead have worked closely with ETSA and other stakeholders to develop the ASPCoP, which is designed to raise standards for installation of AMR devices intended for use with gas meters and to ensure interoperability of AMR data flows from Automated Meter Reading service providers.

TruRead is committed to providing the highest levels of service to all our customers and we welcome the introduction of an industry standard for the provision of gas AMR.

With the ASPCoP customers can be assured of the highest quality of data and professional level of installation.

New Product Launches

2009 has been a busy period for TruRead in developing solution for the AMR market. TruRead has established a number of partnerships with world class manufacturing and technology experts.

This has resulted in the launch of a number of new products including GSM data loggers, innovative low power radio and internet based WAN technology and a patented solution for pulse splitting. All of these products have been approved to meet zone 0 intrinsic safety compliance.

Pulse Splitter Technology

TruRead has a proven track record in developing innovative solution to solving problems in AMR. One such issue was that of sharing pulses from a gas meter between several pieces of equipment. This would occur when there is a need multiple loggers and BMS to work together.

The traditional solution was to cascade equipment, each needing to replicate the pulse to another downstream. The downside is that each piece of equipment includes a battery. If any device in the chain fails or the battery goes flat the rest stop working.

TruRead has solved this problem with their patented passive pulse splitter technology. The pulse splitter can share the pulse in parallel between 3 devices and works without the need for a battery.

The product has been tested over the last year and proven to work. Having now been fully ATEX Zone 0 approved the pulse splitter is ready to hit the streets.

Renewable Energy Market

The UK has just revealed revolutionary plans for a massive expansion of offshore wind farms have been unveiled in a 100bn project designed to usher in a new era of green energy for Britain.

A quarter of the country's electricity needs would be met through renewable power by 2020. There is a need to accurately monitor energy generated by embedded sources such as wind, photovoltaic and micro-generation.

TruRead is working with leading providers of renewable energy and will via our service provide the means to remotely monitor the energy provided from such plant.

Simon Slater, MD of TruRead says "Embedded generation is the future and TruRead is excited to play our part in making green energy work. We will continue to work with market leaders to provide cost effective and scalable solution to support mass deployment of renewable energy".

Low carbon way ‘to reshape lives’

Published: July 15 2009 16:15 | Last updated: July 15 2009 16:15

The Government has announced a package of measures aimed at bringing about a low-carbon future. In a document called “Carbon Transition Plan”, they outline proposals for cutting carbon, expanding renewable energy sources and investing in Smart Metering technologies (which means the rollout of some 21 million smart meters).

More details can be found at the BBC (amongst others), from where the PDF of the primary document can be downloaded.

This sort of commitment will only yield results if the foundations for measuring the benefits are sound. TruRead’s AMR technologies enable accurate measurement of energy and resources to be properly measured, against which changes can be compared. Recent extensions to TruRead’s offerings, allow very detailed data to be collected and analysed using a variety of different technologies. TruRead is now both a data provider and also an inventor of innovative new products and technologies which will continue to deliver critical information to support the needs of energy consumers and strategists alike.

National Grid Loses Fine Fight

National Grid said it was considering its legal options after failing to overturn a record fine for breaching competition rules in its UK gas metering business. The Competition Appeal Tribunal yesterday shaved more than a quarter off the company’s original penalty of £41.6m, ruling that £30m was a more appropriate fine level. However, it backed an earlier regulatory finding that National Grid’s long-term, exclusive metering contracts with energy suppliers restricted competition and harmed consumer choice. National Grid, which transmits and distributes gas and electricity, inherited a gas metering market monopoly when it bought Transco, owner of the gas transmission network, in 2002.

National Grid spent two years renegotiating contracts with gas suppliers.

“We continue to believe that our gas metering contracts have not harmed consumers, competition or gas suppliers,” said Mark Fairbairn, National Grid executive director. “We will now thoroughly review the judgment and consider our next steps.”
