Alan’s Blog...
It is a while since I last updated my Blog. A lot has happened since I last made an entry.
The world’s financial systems have collapsed and been saved and now more excitingly we are in a new decade.
It is simply amazing to think how quickly the first decade of the new millennium flew by. I remember just ten years ago waiting anxiously for planes to fall from the sky and the lights to go out. Disappointingly, nothing happened, the world did not end in Y2K much like the financial crisis in 2009.
Though 2010 does not feel much different than 2009, except I ended it 6 lbs heavier than when it started, I am looking forward to the new year and new decade.
But I sit here wonder what it will bring? I have already trashed all of my New Year resolutions so I will not go there and will still be 6 lbs heavier!
One announcement at the end of the year is that the Government is going to mandate domestic Smart Meters for all. For years I have been waiting for the UK government to agree there is a need for smart meters. With the start of the year there is already a lot of debates about what direction the cost of energy will take - usually upward but the question is how fast and how many of us will be fuel poor by the start of the next decade, will my energy bill really be £5000 a year?.
I suppose one consolation is that with my new shiny Smart Meter and customer display, I will soon be able to know exactly how much electricity my kettle has used when I boil it to make my tea in the morning. With that I can make clearly informed decisions - do I change my kettle from a white one to a blue one? or do I buy a different brand of teabag that is energy efficient and works at 60°C?
Hmm low energy tea bags, now that’s a good idea - I think I should patent it.
So here we are at the start of the next decade my every activity of energy use will be monitored by Gordon Brown and he will know exactly when I take my bath.
Welcome to 2010.......Alan
